What is AI disclosure carryover?
AI disclosure carryover is the editorial practice of preserving the facts that remain true when a source asset becomes a new platform-native version, then making a fresh disclosure decision for the destination. If a realistic voice was cloned in the source video and that voice remains in a short clip, the representation fact carries. The destination platform rule, label control, visible placement, and final approval do not carry automatically.
The misconception is that a disclosure attached to the source asset travels with every crop, excerpt, carousel, transcript, newsletter section, or platform upload. It may not. The disclosure could be left outside the crop, buried in a source description the new viewer never sees, removed with metadata, or expressed through an upload control that does not exist on the next surface.

YouTube and TikTok require destination-specific review
YouTube says creators must disclose content that is meaningfully altered or synthetically generated when it seems realistic, including making a real person appear to say or do something they did not, altering footage of a real event or place, or generating a realistic scene that did not occur. Creators make that disclosure through the AI use setting during upload, and YouTube may apply a label even when the creator does not disclose.
TikTok says creators must label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio, and video, and it encourages creators to label content that is completely generated or significantly edited by AI. TikTok provides a creator label and may also automatically label content it identifies as AI-generated. Some AI-generated content remains prohibited even if it is labeled.
Those official rules have overlapping concerns but different wording, controls, and policy boundaries. A YouTube upload choice is not evidence that a TikTok derivative has been reviewed, and a TikTok label does not configure a YouTube upload. A carousel or newsletter may have no equivalent platform control at all. The creator must inspect the destination and decide what the audience will actually encounter there.
Carry representation, claim, and provenance facts
Representation is the source fact about what was generated or altered. Record the person, voice, place, event, scene, demonstration, result, or product moment involved. Placement is a format decision. A long-video description may disappear when a clip is exported. A spoken disclosure may be cut before a short begins. A carousel may need the explanation on the frame where the synthetic representation appears. A newsletter may need a nearby sentence because there is no upload label. The practical question is whether the disclosure remains available when the audience first relies on the representation or claim.
Approval is a release decision. The destination owner should review the derivative, source record, disclosure wording, placement, and current platform rule. Brand, client, likeness, privacy, or internal review rights may also need a fresh decision when the format, audience, or claim changes. For a newsletter, the creator links the source explainer and states near the excerpt that the question was reconstructed and the voice in the original was synthetic.
